Issues of Christian Community
I have specialized in assisting people of Christian faith since 1988. Growing up in the Christian church, I recognize that there can be both positive and adverse effects from being a part of religious community. I can appreciate the complex challenges of being a person of faith who desires to maintain the teachings of the scriptures. That said, though many of those in the Judeo-Christian traditions have received sustenance from practicing the presence of God, some have also experienced profound wounding and can be stuck in patterns of emotional dysregulation, compulsivity, addictions, depression and anxiety.
Good psychotherapy opens up growth blocks to healthy Christian spirituality and ultimately brings unspeakable joy! Couples and individuals can trust that I will honor and include their intimate faith journey while integrating current and effective psychological interventions. Learning to practice good psychological health will greatly enhance your ability to live and love God with your whole heart, mind and strength. I have experience treating a diverse community of Christians, from those new in the faith to those in the clergy.
I have a special devotion and expertise in treating Christian couples. For over 25 years, I have facilitated women’s faith journey retreats, taught faith formation and am a consistent student of scripture and daily prayer. Together with my husband, Steve Clarke MD, I lead couples’ retreats and teach communication classes including a wide variety of couples’ and family issues.
